Abstract
The 11th Optoelectronics and Communications Conference (OECC) was held on 3-7 July 2006 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Three plenary talks were presented. The first by Dr. Takashi Nakashima of NTT, Japan, covered the latest penetration of FTTH in Japan. Dr. Victor Klimov from Los Alamos National Lab. introduced how nanocrystals can dramatically enhance the spectral tunability and photoluminescence quantum yields while Dr. Yung S. Liu, the former director of Opto-Electronics and Systems Labs. of ITRI, emphasized that nanotechnologies have made light sources viable commercial products that immensely impact human life. Workshops covered issues of feasible photonic networks as well as radio on fiber technologies.
