Abstract
This paper presents a novel boost converter with a proposed tapped inductor ripple cancellation circuit. Based on the traditional methods, an extra LC branch, which consists of a capacitor and an inductor, is introduced in order to diminish the input current ripple. At the same time, the main inductor in the traditional boost converter can be transferred into the tapped inductor with the LC branch tapped from main inductor to the ground. The conditions of ripple cancellation as well as the limitations of approximation to the equations are discussed to find the requirements of the components. A 48/200V, 600W prototype circuit with the proposed LC branch is simulated. It can be demonstrated that the proposed circuit has the same boost ratio as the conventional one and the input current ripple is smaller than 1%.
