Abstract
This study concerns the trend of traveling afoot around Taiwan since 2010s. Being different from the past, travellers build up the sign through the related knowledge and different levels of going and performing skills in the mobility system of traveling afoot around Taiwan. During the journey, travellers encounter crisis that makes everydayness emerges, making a new way of interpretation of Taiwaneseness that travelers re-define the recognition toward self and places through bodily practicing.
The key to stepping the Taiwan here for travelers is the process of doing and performing. The traveling mobility system, which is constituted of a variety of local facilities, materials, systems, and knowledge and technology required to operate, highlights the differences from the past. Travelers produce their own flagging by operating knowledge and performing skills on different levels to recognize their own role on stages.
Additionally, this experience reveals another possible appearance of banal nationalism. Everydayness emerges through the different levels of crisis and bodily-emotionally boring situation that embedded in everyday social relations, rhythm and body habitus. Travelers who perform themselves consciously, taking their body as flagging, (re)produce the Taiwaneseness by concentrate, dilution and re-concentrating performance.
