Abstract
When the authorities consider what kinds of decisions they should make for traffic control, they must accord to the scene of the traffic condition. By doing so, they can make proper decisions for traffic control. The advantages of collect the traffic information by vehicle detector(V.D.) are: 1. By vehicle detector, we can have the newest traffic information that help the authorities to make the most proper decision for traffic control. 2. If we collect the traffic information for more than 8~10 hours by vehicle detector, we can have the relatively low cost to collecting information by labors. 3. By vehicle detector, we can avoid some man-made errors. Furthermore, V.D. plays the key role in the intelligent transportation system. To a city, if the authorities want to put in use V.D., they would face an problem—which intersection should they place detector? In the study, we find the way V.D. operates in the traffic control systems in Taiwan. Therefore, we conclude that the intersection should place V.D. must have these characteristics: 1. Easy-crowed. 2. High-volume. 3. Stretching to express way. Because we can easily find intersections that have these characteristics by road functional classification, the research follow this direction to find the intersections that need V.D. The use of V.D. must satisfy the need of the authorities’ routine work for collecting traffic information. Therefore, we would validate our suggested intersections by comparing them with the intersections that the authorities investigating into.
