Abstract
To the Editor: Results from the Bladder Cancer 2001 (BC2001) trial by James and colleagues (April 19 issue)1 suggest that synchronous administration of f luorouracil and mitomycin C with radiotherapy improved locoregional recurrencefree survival among patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. However, two essential points regarding patient demographic characteristics and outcomes were not reported. First, there were no data regarding the outcomes among patients with primary tumors that could not be completely resected. The completeness of surgical resection before definitive treatment could have a clinically significant impact on the outcome. Second, we wonder whether the combined methods of treatment reduced bladder capacity in a clinically significant way; this reduction could influence the quality of life in these patients.
