Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to study relative displacements of different buildings under earthquakes because the different buildings have different period. It need stay for requires gap to prevent collision. In this study, three earthquake time histories corresponding to the design spectrum were applied to nonlinear dynamic time history analysis of the model. The above results were compared with the results of CQC method. The parameters used of the dynamic analysis include period of model, the coefficient of corresponding to the design spectrum. In the analysis, we created different floor of the building models to change period, and the floor of the building used the single particle to simplify simulation to analysis. The parameters used of the analysis were period, to discuss the influence of two vibrant models in the different periods for the relative displacement. Then regard different coefficients of seismic acceleration of in different areas, analyse the influence on relative displacement when different in the area, and simplify the relation between relative displacement and total displacement of CQC method to coefficient C for the engineer to use. Next, we study conditions producing weak story. Building designs in general, its higher floor may be over designed. A building is larger, its stiffness after yield is larger. We explore the relationship between the two conditions and create a method to determine what producing weak story.
