Abstract
The application of hand functional electrical stimulation (FES) could help patients to restore functions of paralyged limbs. Although several methods had been developed for hand FES, the shift of stimulation sites had been still troublesome. Due to the shift between the skin and muscle, formerly used electrodes could hardly locate on expected stimulation sites. The aim of this research is to design a set of electrode array and investigate the parameters of hand FES.
When employing FES on hand, we found that the gesture of rotation of hand would affect stimulation sites and then change the effect of hand FES. By utilizing the set of surface electrode array, we could control the switching and the intensity of FES, and thus decide the stimulated position. The most effective stimulation positions on the surface of forearm and the characteristics of surface electrode array could be found for the variation of forearm gesture.
