Abstract
However important it is inancient Chinese novella studies, Lu Xun’sCollection of Lost Ancient Novellas hasseveral problems to be solved, one of which is the Tales of Emperor Wu of Han it includes. To examine the methods that Lu Xun adopts in writing the manuscript of the Collection,this article reviews the data sources to find editingproblems, corrects the wrongly compiledsentences, and supplements the lost information of the Tales. The resulteliminates the questionable sentences originating from the Collection of Dark Purple Pearls, deletes the sentences inserted into the contents of the Internal Biography of Emperor Wu of Han, and supplements with two important lost essays cited in the Chronicle of the Western Han Dynasty.
