Abstract
Due to the gradually increasing concerns about global warming issues in recent years, developing green transportation is one of the prior strategies to suppress the greenhouse gases produced by private vehicles in nations. Bicycle is considering a healthy and eco-friendly transportation mode with characteristics of zero-pollution, low cost, high mobility, etc.; therefore, strategies encouraging bicycle using are implemented in advanced nations. However, the present bicycle lanes are mostly constructed for recreational proposes and mainly built along with rivers; bicycle lanes for commuting in urban areas are less and separated. This research aims to discuss riders’ choice behavior in urban roads for building up a bicycle lane route choice mode; to understand the importance of each factor in route choice, discovering the key point of bicycle surrounding improvement, in order to provide a reference as urban bicycle lane constructing in the future.
In this research, questionnaire is used for investigating the importance of each factor in route choice and collecting riders’ route choice behavior by using stated preference method, with the outcomes, the route choice mode can be established by applying multinomial logit model. In the result, bicycle lane with physical separation can increase riders’ choosing inclination, but travel distance is not as vital as expected, shown that riders are willing to expand part of travel distance for better bicycle surroundings. The utility of each route for riders can be evaluated through route choice mode; the route with better evaluation can be a referral for building up a bicycle lane priory, moreover, the route with worse evaluation can also be reviewed and proceed engineering improvement.
