Abstract
From previous researches related to articular cartilage tissue engineering, we understand that
beside chondrocytes, scaffolds and growth factors, mechanical stimulus is also a key element to
successful tissue engineering products. However, the related studies are scarce. The goal of this
project is to study the effects of mechanical compression on articular cartilage tissue engineering.
We already finished the synthesis of elastic biodegradable polymers, the fabrication of tissue
engineering scaffolds, the design and the construction of compressible bioreactors, isolation and
culture of chondrocytes, and development of biochemical assays.
