Abstract
Spectrally precoded nonorthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (SP-NOFDM) techniques is investigated in this thesis. First, the spectral characteristic of SP-NOFDM is studied. In order to guarantee power spectral sidelobes decaying asymptotically as f-2J-2 with J being a predesigned integer-valued parameter, a general constraint on spectral precoding is developed for SP-NOFDM signal formats with unconstrained guard ratios, presettable frequency spacing factor and arbitrary input data statistics. Moreover, two different precoders are proposed to satisfy this constraint. Second, the channel capacity of SP-NOFDM systems is analytically derived. Third, the linear minimum mean square error receiver is designed for SP-NOFDM systems. Finally, it is shown that the proposed SP-NOFDM signals can suppress sidelobe powers effectively and thus achieve higher spectral compactness than nonprecoded rectangularly-pulsed orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing with cyclic prefix (CP-OFDM) signals.
