Abstract
The taxonomy of beetles is the key point of the present research. Five research
papers and a scientific note are completed: one for Psephenidae and the rest for
Lampyridae. In the paper of Psephenidae, the genus Granuleubria is treated. Four new
species are described from SE Asia and the immature stages of the genus are described
for the first time. For Lampyridae, we deal with the genus Cyphonocerus, Pyrocoelia,
Diaphanes, and Lamprigera. In the first paper, a new species of Cyphonocerus from
Taiwan, C. jenniferi, n. sp., is described. In the second and third papers, the validity of the
generic name Pyrocoelia is discussed and the species from Taiwan are reviewed. In
recent decades, both Lychnuris and Pyrocoelia were used as the valid name of this Asian
genus. In this paper we clarify the status of Lychnuris and verify that it is irrelevant to the
genus; A senior synonym, Stroggulus Motschulsky, was never been used as a vaild name
in the recent preceding 50 years, while the name Pyrocoelia was widely used during this
period of time. It is suggested to suppress the priority of the former for the taxonomic
stability. This opinion is written to the ICZN to ask ruling. In the fourth paper, the species
of Diaphanes of Taiwan are reviewed, and two new species are described. The last article
is a scientific note, dealing with Lamprigera yunnana from Taiwan. The lectotype of that
species is designated and the morphology and taxonomic position are also briefly
discussed. Among these six papers, three have been published in September and
November of 1999 and the rest will be contributed to different journals soon.
