Abstract
This paper presents a resonant cavity antenna based on a patch antenna and a frequency selective surface operating at 300 GHz. A microstrip patch antenna on a quartz substrate is fabricated using the integrated passive device technology. To further enhance the antenna gain, a metamaterial layer is introduced on the backside of the substrate as a frequency selective surface and a resonator is thus formed. Gain enhancement due to the resonator is about 6 dB.
