Abstract
Based on IEEE 802.16 medium access control unctionalities, this thesis develops a two-phase adaptive scheduling for retransmission (ASR) to improve the transmission efficiency of IEEE 802.16 systems. The goal of our proposed approach is to properly adapt the bandwidth for retransmitted packets to ful‾ll their delay requirements without QoS violation of the newly arriving packets. The proposed approach is compatible with the IEEE 802.16 standard, and could be easily integrated with the existing packet schedulers as well. A simulation model is presented to investigate the performance of ASR. A series of simulations are conducted to show the capability of our two-phase scheduling approach for retransmissions.
