Under this Dual-Mode Hybrid access scenario, each end user’s router or host computer will be provided with both ADSL access as well as Outdoor/Public WLAN access so that the total access bandwidth can be boosted, while the service and applications over this network can be provisioned dynamically over different network interfaces. The quality of service for each specific application stream shall be maintained to meet its own traffic characteristics and the traffic load of between the WLAN link and ADSL link can be balanced intelligently. In order to boost the instantaneous access bandwidth, in the first year, we have completed the preliminary studies and proposed designs for the following key technologies and issues: a. A smart application level load balancing routing mechanism for the router and the middleware for the host computer directly on the Dual-Mode Hybrid Broadband Access b. An efficient network status monitoring mechanism and a smart classification mechanism c. The Network Planning model and optimization issues for the Dual-Mode Hybrid Broadband Access architecture We plan not only to propose novel network monitoring mechanism, classification algorithm, the Dual-Mode Hybrid Access routing engine, the middleware, and its detailed network architecture, an integration test beds will be established. |
