The purpose of this study was to explore the knowledge about AIDS and related factors among nurses at one medical center. Data were collected by using a questionnaire which was mad available to 45 anonymous, voluntary nurses from infection units. The response rate was 93%. The highest scores were for questions regarding the routes of transmission of HIV（87.5%）, whereas the lowest scores were for questions regarding the clinical manifestation of AIDS /HIV. Although it has been shown that continuing education was important to the nurses, our study showed only improvement on knowledge of clinical symptoms. Workshops and training programs should focus on practices of the universal precautions, a comprehensive knowledge of protean manifestations of AIDS, and increasing the willingness of nurses to take care of patients with AIDS. Every measure should be taken to encourage nurses to appreciate of caring for patients with AIDS.
