Optimal infant outcomes require both developmental care and complex physiological care. Care of high-risk newborns has improved dramatically over past years. Continuing education programs can provide nurses with advanced knowledge, sophisticated technology, and expert neonatal intensive care . The main purpose of this study was to evaluate such a program, to assist in designing better continuing education programs for the future. This program includes four main themes: 1. Identifying and monitoring high-risk newborns for physiological and pathological changing. 2. Expert caring skills and management. 3. Developmental care for high-risk newborns. 4. Strategies for care of high-risk newborns' parents. The evaluation tools included self evaluation forms and a program feedback form, both designed by the researcher. The quantitative data were analyzed by descriptive methods and a nonparametric test and the qualitative data by content analysis. The results showed that the effect of this continuing education program can fit program tasks and teaching objects. But the subjects were more satisfied with lecture teaching than practical teaching . From this point of view the continuing education programs should be divided into several different courses to meet different nurses' needs.
