Abstract
This research prototypes a web-based expert system with Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) on seismic safety assessment of school buildings. The present prototype focuses on the preliminary seismic safety assessment of buildings and the data schema design for representing domain experts’ knowledge. For the preliminary seismic safety assessment of buildings, this work interviews domain experts to obtain the major parameters affecting seismic safety of school buildings and employs Analytic Hierarchy Process method to determine the weights for the parameters. Furthermore, this research integrates CBR technique and Java technology with XML technique to represent and manage the experts’ knowledge and experiences from existing building cases. It also makes sure that the system can function well under a unified interface and provide high flexibility to be expanded and upgraded.
