Abstract
Real time traffic data acquisition has been the nucleus and basis of all the
development of ITS. For the aim at predicting traffic by spot and linear parameters,
there are 3 parts in this study. The first one, we not only concentrated on reviewing
the layout of loop detectors, as well as estimation for traffic parameters, but also paid
attention to investigating how to make the use of loop detectors and improving the
identification of traffic flows. The second, the concept of probe car was employed to
tracking the position of floating cars by GPS system, and then, transferring this
location data to prediction of travel time. The third, by the technique of the fusion of
active & passive traffic information, we adopted the spot and linear traffic data for
estimation of OD matrices from traffic counts. This application study is well to
improve the traffic efficiently by accurate data searching, sophisticated analysis skill
and forecasting framework.
