Abstract
In this research, we develop a web-based system, named BGMWeb (Web-based Building Geo-parcel Management System), that manages 2D geometric building information on WebGIS using MapGuide OpenSource and 2.5D building models for landscape simulation on Google Earth to serve as an effective tool for administrators to store, query, and manage the geo-parcel information of buildings. By integrating the coordinate information of buildings from their corresponding geo-parcels on WebGIS and the height value from the administrative building database, BGMWeb can generate a 2.5D geometry file in the KML file format for landscape simulation on Google Earth. Through loading the queried KML (Keyhole markup language) file in Google Earth, users can also click the hyperlink of a building to query its 2D geometry and text-baed information in BGMWeb. BGMWeb takes advantage of AGF (Autodesk Geometry Format) to support modeling and storing geographic features (such as points, lines, and polygons) for display in MapGuide OpenSource, and KML to support modeling and storing geographic features (such as points, lines, images, polygons, and models) for display in Google Earth. Furthermore, by integrating the time information from the administrative building database with 2.5D models, the evolution of buildings of a city or county can be simulated in Google Earth.
