Seven cases of histologically proven Brenner tumor of the ovary encountered from 1984 to 1993 were reviewed. The frequency of Brenner tumor was 0.09% (7 cases) in a total of 7,384 ovarian tumors examined. The mean age of patients was 52.6 years. Five of the seven patients were menopausal. Most patients presented with abnormal uterine bleeding, including postmenopausal bleeding or menstrual abnormality. Brenner tumor was not suspected preoperatively in any case. The preoperative diagnoses were ovarian tumor (5), uterine myoma (1), and characteristic endometrial hyperplasia (1) and adenocarcinoma (1). All Brenner tumors were diagnosed by pathological examination of the surgical specimens. One case had a tumor measuring 10 cm in diameter, while the others had tumors smaller than 5 cm. Four Brenner tumors were located in the right ovary and the other three in the left ovary.
