Abstract
With the popularity of broadband networks, video streaming is growing rapidly in the Internet. By deployment of caching proxies, backbone bandwidth can be saved significantly. In this paper, we propose a packet-based caching architecture for video streaming. The proposed caching scheme is based on streamed packets instead of video files and the consideration of packet loss recovery. We also propose an effective cache replacement algorithm, PLFU, and evaluate it through simulation. © 2002 IEEE.
