Abstract
A single-sided mobile NMR apparatus with a small Halbach magnet was constructed for the first time. It is lightweight, compact and exhibits good sensitivity. The weight of the device is only 2 kg, and the NMR signal of the pencil eraser block can be detected in one shot using the device. This study describes the characteristics of this instrument, including the profile of static magnetic flux density, B0, the sensitivity in the depth direction and its effectiveness in one-dimensional profiling. Its usefulness in differentiating soft materials and evaluating the extent of damage of a material is demonstrated based on T2 relaxation data. The moisture absorbance also can be observed from the increase of the echo amplitude of the NMR spin echo signal. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
