Abstract
The ability of conventional B-mode ultrasonic imaging in breast cancer detection has been limited. In this talk, we will present a parametric imaging method that can be used to complement B-mode breast imaging. In particular, this method reconstructs the sound velocity and the attenuation coefficient distribution in the breast using a linear array. Furthermore, the imaging setup is identical to the B-mode setup and thus the parametric imaging method can be easily implemented. The reconstruction algorithm, system setup, phantom and clinical results are described with a discussion on the potential in improving breast cancer detection.
