| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | There is an urgent need to devise a
comprehensive and ecologically relevant in
situ biomonitoring method for assessing
environmental health. Developmental
instability is a simple, inexpensive and
sensitive approach for identify and
monitoring stressed ecosystem. In this study,
a developmental instability approach was
applied to identify stressed coastal area in
northern Taiwan. A study site is located at
Pa-Dor-Tze which is near a landfill site and
the other study site is located at Wai-Mo-San
which is north of the Keelung port. A
reference site is located a Red-Ben which is 4
km south of PA-Dor-Tze. A marine crab,
Grapsus albolineatus, which commonly
present in all sites was chosen for measuring
fluctuating asymmetry as indicators of
developmental instability. Salinity,
dissolved oxygen, conductivity, COD, pH
and temperature were measured in all sites
and there were no significant difference in
seawater among three sites. Limb segment
lengths, carapace lengths and carapace
widths were measured twice for each crab.
Then, the difference between right and left
limb segment lengths among three sites were
compared by using Krustal-Wallis ANOVA
test and Tukey post hoc test . Results of
this study indicated that there were
significant differences in the body sizes of
Grapsus albolineatus collected from three
sites. The level of fluctuating asymmetry in
second and third walking legs were
significant different between Pa-Dor-Tze and
Wai-Mo-San site. Overall, there is an
increase of fluctuating asymmetry for leg
segments of crabs from Pa-Dor-Tze site
compared to the other two sites. | en |
