Abstract
It needs a rigorous investigation, with integrated statistics of sports, to national sports policy. The present and explain of important statistical data influents national development policy of sports and physical education a lot. The sports related issues and the trend of development are expected to be presented systematically. Sports Affairs Council of Executive Yuan has listed sports statistics as an annual routine and published the results regularly because of the reference of statistical data and the importance of sports-related database since 2000. Moreover, the Ministry of Education began the large-scale regular statistical survey of physical education, student participation and physical fitness of students in Taiwan in 2004. During these years, there are quite considerable data collected. The major objective of this study was to briefly describe the development of sports statistics in Taiwan. In the end, we suggested some research directions in the future: (1) drawing up the data policing method, (2) establishing the national-level sports database administrative unit, (3) collecting the data related to sports and physical education extensively and (4) conducting the cross databases research, which are expected to accumulate the research results gradually, develop the forward-looking conformity research, and show the value of sports and physical education statistics.
