Herein, we present a 59-year-old woman who had recurrent cerebral infarcts before the diagnosis of cancer. A massive pericardial and pleural effusion developed rapidly followed by a gangrene change of the distal limbs. An adenocarcinoma was discovered by a cytology examination of the pericardial effusion. The patient died about two months after her first stroke. Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis was most likely responsible for her recurrent cerebral infarcts and systemic embolization. |
