The Knudsen number is of the order 0.1 for the gas motion within the slip-flow regime, and the temperature jump, thermal creep, and frictional slip are permitted at the particle surface. Using a singular perturbation method, we solve the relevant energy and momentum equations and obtain a closed-form formula for the thermophoretic velocity of the cylindrical particle correct to the order (Formula presented.) The perturbed temperature field starts from the order (Formula presented.) but the correction to the thermophoretic mobility of the particle starts from the higher order (Formula presented.) Both corrections of the orders (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.) to the particle mobility can be either positive or negative depending upon the relevant thermal and interfacial parameters, showing that the effect of heat convection in the fluid on the thermophoresis of a cylindrical particle is complex and can increase or decrease its mobility. In general, the heat convection effect on the thermophoretic mobility is substantially stronger for a circular cylinder than for a sphere, whose correction starts from the order (Formula presented.)
