The complete toroidal cutter comprises three sections: a cylindrical shank, a truncated cone and a toroid. In machining practice, the cylindrical shank is held by the spindle-head holder and rotates about a central axis. The cylindrical shank can thus be used as the base of the complete tool surface. The model is systematically built from a logical base of a minimum cylindrical shank envelope, which is then extended to the conical and toroidal parts, all based on the common axis. The proposed model provides a useful and sensible method for the evaluation of the toroidal milling cutter. This paper presents a quality-evaluation model for a cylindrical-shank toroidal milling cutter.
