Abstract
The research work completed in the first year
included the synthesis of nanocrystalline TiO2 via a
sol-gel process. Surface modification by
hexamethyldisilizane has been found to greatly
inhibit grain growth upon calcination and to preserve
large surface area. In addition, Cu catalyst has been
introduced into the TiO2 xerogel by three methods,
including vapor phase deposition, gel-doping, and
incipient wetness processes. Microstructural and
optical characterization of all the above-mentioned samples have been completed.
