Abstract
A simple purification method that allows the separation of the particles containing the incompletely reacted minor-phase compounds from the particles containing almost only superconducting YBa2Cu3O7 compound is described. In this method, the calcined oxide powder is first wet milled and then sedimentation classified. During this process the particles containing the minor-phase compounds sediment at a slower rate and consequently they are concentrated into the oxide powders collected at the later stages of sedimentation. One example is included in order to demonstrate the method and to illustrate the improvement in the superconducting properties of the sintered YBa2Cu3O7 compacts obtained. © 1988.
