Abstract
The influence of cross-linking on the molecular relaxation near its glass transition
temperature of the copolymer (PMMA-PBA) was studied. The degree of cross-linking of samples
was controlled by the amount of cross-linker added and was assessed by swelling ratio method.
Mechanical relaxation spectra were measured by DMA, and the results were analyzed using the
empirical HN equation. The fitting parameters obtained from the data fitting were used to
interpret the relation between molecular motions and structure of polymers based on the model
proposed by Schönhals and Schlosser. The values of α decreased with increasing cross-linker
amount, which meant intermolecular interactions were affected by cross-linking. However, the
values of αβ were not significantly changed, which meant intranmolecular interactions were not
affected by cross-linking. Besides, the relaxation time in general also rose with the increment of the level of cross-linking.
