The vascular wall motion is recorded simultaneously with the pulsatile tonometry pressure, thus the stress-strain relationship of blood vessel can be derived accurately. The methodology was validated in vitro using an elastic tube phantom as well as in vivo. In young subjects, their dosalis-pedis arteries (DPA) have higher distensibility than the upper limb arteries. The DPA, brachial artery (BA), and radial artery (RA) have mean elastic modulus (Ep) of 1.39, 1.45, 0.90 x106 dyne/cm2 respectively; and the mean EDRs is about 6%. |
