Abstract
The goal of this study was to develop a
new speckle reduction algorithm for
inhomogeneous ultrasound images to
effectively alleviate the interference of
speckle in the quantitative image analysis.
The main contribution of this study was the
symmetric region growing technique based
on the slope facet model. This scheme not
only eliminated the drawback of the
unrealistic flat facet model, but also ensured
the unbiasness of the mean value. Besides,
this scheme also incorporated a widely used
speckle model, which promised a better
estimation of the speckle.
