With an aim to promote basic and applied researches in crop science, effort has been focused on recruiting faculty members with strong background in modern agriculture and bioscience as well. Improving research facilities are also our major concern. In the aspects of teaching and research, the faculty always grasps the progress of high technology. In the applied field, they try hard to contact, guide and solve the problems of nowadays agriculture.
農藝系創系於1946年，迄今已70多年。我們一直以Feeding the World （餵養全世界）為職志，培育農業與農學具領導力的專家。除了傳承這古老重要的行業與天職，亦開時代風氣之先，積極求新應變。近年來，分子育種、生物技術、生物資訊、生物統計、作物模式 （大數據之探勘）等也開始和傳統農藝結合，產生了相輔相成的新時代農業科技。農藝系的教育方針就在這種時代的變遷裡與時俱進，秉承著專家養成教育之循序步驟，立基傳統，求新求變，用最嚴謹的科學訓練態度，研究及教導最宏觀視野的作物相關科學及科技。
由於全球氣候變遷對糧食的生產與供應造成明顯的威脅，作物科學的研究及發展成為全球關注的焦點，所謂農業4.0 （智能農業）及永續農業的發展蔚為現今重要議題。農藝系在這關鍵的時刻扮演決定性的角色，應發揮最大的影響力，引領新世代的農業發展。本系的總體目標陳述如下:
● 培育作物科學研究及實際應用的人才。
● 確保國人糧食安全及農產需求。
● 致力全球農業環境之永續發展。
