Description
The mission of the Department is to be a leading finance research institute in the Asia region, establish global recognition for excellence in both research and teaching, and facilitate learning and innovations in order to have education and social impacts on the academic and business sectors. The Department offers a full range of finance programs from the undergraduate, master to the PhD levels. It launched the bachelor degree in 1985, the master program in 1990, and the doctorate program in 1993. The Divisions of Financial Engineering and Insurance were added to the master program in 1998 and 2001 respectively. We emphasize the interaction between technology and finance, infuse courses with ethical dimensions, and cultivate students’ global perspective, all in the aims of cultivating professionals specializing in accounting, finance, insurance and real estate. Furthermore, to further integrate theory and practice, the Department collaborates with domestic and foreign major financial institutions, providing students with scholarships and internship opportunities during the summer and winter holidays. The department is currently among the nation’s top-ranked leading departments, sharing the title with NTU’s Department of Medicine and Department of Electrical Engineering. The Department now has more than 20 full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in research and have reached international reputation in key areas of finance such as asset pricing, bank regulation, corporate finance, empirical banking, financial econometrics, insurance and risk management. We also hosts international renowned scholars and experienced industry practitioners to enhance our research and teaching activities. To keep up with the stream and respond to challenges of the financial academics and industries, the Department actively recruits the most outstanding faculty members and expands its facilities. The Department hosts various academic activities and events to boost our academic exposure and reputation. Between 1995 and 2013, the Department has been the organizer of the “NTU International Seminar on Finance,” a biennial event crossing over industry, government and academia, allowing for academic and practical exchanges as well as adapting new financial knowledge. Looking forward, the department will also hold large-scale international seminars; currently, it will host the FMA Asian Conference in 2017. Throughout the semesters, the department also hosts academic and practical financial seminars, inviting famous scholars, internationally renowned academic journal editors and entrepreneurs to speak. Teachers and students are encouraged to publish international academic papers and participate in international conferences. Students get the chance to expand their horizons and gain experience abroad through exchange programs with renowned universities in other countries. The Department also maintains close academic ties with the Guanghua College of Management, Peking University, and the School of Management, Fudan University.
