We chose the old downtown in Central District, Taichung, Taiwan as the study area. Firstly we collected historical map and aerial photo data of the old downtown from 1948 to 2015 and then rectified them with high geometric accuracy. The maps of land use and street block figuring the urban structure were generated based on the rectified data. Finally, spatial analysis including landscape ecology (LE) and space syntax (SS) was performed to analyze the change of urban texture in different period with the help of FRAGSTATS and Axwoman tools. We found the most significant landscape change is that the spatial heterogeneity and fragmentation of vegetation patches increase from 1948 to 2003 while gradually increases from 2003 to 2015. In addition, the main axes are invariant during the six decades of 1948 to 2015. Future applications based on this study include providing urban planners with the analysis of urban development change and helping humanities scholars make urban planning strategies and develop future urban landscape.Aerial photos; Landscape ecology; Space syntax[SDGs]SDG11[SDGs]SDG15Aerial photography; Ecology; Forestry; Land use; Planning; Remote sensing; Space optics; Syntactics; Urban growth; Aerial photos; Future applications; Landscape ecology; Objective approaches; Quantitative information; Space syntax; Spatial heterogeneity; Urban Planning Strategies; Urban planningThe reconstruction of urban cultural landscape and the change analysis of urban landscape and texture - A case study of the old downtown in Central District, Taichung City, Taiwanconference paper2-s2.0-84964049737
