The conventionalEuleriangrid-based models that use grids fixed in space have anumber of difficulties (e. g. numerical diffusion, oscillations, and instabilities) when the transport is advection dominated. Numerical results arepresented for a steep fronttracer, aperiodic pollutant source flowing through a bump, and a 2D contaminated flow through a conical mountain in a uniform flow and are compared against analyticalsolutions. It is depicted that the Lagrangian particle model can fully eliminate the numerical diffusion and oscillationsat the steep fronts with high concentration gradients. Based onthesebenchmark test cases, SPHLagrangiannumerical model is an accurateandefficient tool to simulate pollutant transport in both advection-dominated and diffusion-dominated systems, and can be adopted to investigate various phenomena of pollutant transport in rivers and/or coastal regions for environmental water quality problems.enSmoothed Particle HydrodynamicsAdvection-diffusion equationPollutant transportOpen channel flowPollutant Transport in Open Channel Flows with Meshless Particle Methodconference proceedingsWOS:000343761502048
