We are planning a comprehensive examination of Hg in the continental margins using a combining experimental design (i.e, field and laboratory investigations with a theoretic modeling). Our general goal is to increase understanding of Hg biogeochemistry in East China Sea Shelf. Special attention will be given to understand the role and assessing environmental impact of in-situ elemental Hg (Hg0) production and emissions on the aquatic and atmospheric cycle. Thus, the objectives carefully examine the cycling of Hg and its species, and assess the impact of anthropogenic inputs, especially from the China rivers and atmospheric inputs (e.g., rain and dust) related to the production of Hg0. Over the long-term observation, we expect to incorporate these multi-media data into a biogeochemical Hg cycling and mixing model for the ECS. The results will finally allow to be applicable to other similar coastal environments and to be further served as a decision tool for future environmental policy.汞循環汞逸散汞生地化大陸邊緣海東海Hg cyclingHg emissionsHg biogeochemistryContinental marginEast China Sea汞在東海海域的循環及海氣交換研究
