All the teachers are engaged in both clinical service and research in diversified scopes including anesthesia, pain management, critical care, and basic medical science as well.</p><p>Major interests of research encompass molecular mechanism of nociception (Prof. Sun We-Zen), utilization of transesophageal echocardiography during cardiac surgery (Prof. Wang Ming-Jiuh), fuzzy control anesthesia (Head Prof. Fan Shou-Zen), and the effect of anesthetics on ischemiareperfusion injury (Prof. Lin Chen-Jung and Cheng Ya-Jung).</p>"　　在麻醉科正式成立之前，手術之麻醉由外科醫師施行。1951年底，外科林天佑醫師自美留學歸國，迫切需要麻醉醫師協助以拓展複雜的胸腔外科手術。因此，向當時國防醫學院外科主任張先林教授借到一台手提式麻醉機，並商請該院負責麻醉的王學仕醫師於每天下午協助本院胸腔手術麻醉（1951-1952），並指導本院外科醫師從事臨床麻醉工作。 　　1953年，李光宜醫師在專攻外科醫學20年之後，接受聯合國世界衛生組織支援開發中國家專業醫師之訓練，赴丹麥哥本哈根國際麻醉學中心進修麻醉學。回國後，即專門負責麻醉工作。1957年林溟鯤醫師獲得美國紐約大學麻醉學碩士後返國應聘。1961年趙繼慶醫師赴丹麥進修麻醉學返國。至此本院已3位專職麻醉主治醫師及一位住院醫師（石全美醫師）。因此於1962年6月通過麻醉自外科分出，單獨設科案。自此，台大麻醉醫學的發展終於奠下了基石。"
