Besides conserving these species, it is much important to investigate their additional value such as their physiological functionality. There are many herbs that have been reported to providing functional activities for various diseases in the literature. In Taiwan, species and resources of these medical herbs are numerous and potentially utilizable. Mushroom resources are typical examples. Some mushrooms are found to have the activities of modulating immune system, anticarcinogenicity and antimutagenicity. Unfortunately, little of studies were made to evaluate the biodiversity and applicability of these treasures. We plan to spend four years studying the biodiversity of edible/medical mushrooms in Taiwan. The objectives include to investigate the suitable biomarkers for evaluating their functionality, to determine their biomarker contents, and to evaluate the relationships between their genetic biodiversity and physiological activity. In this year, we would like to investigate and determine their biomarkers, including fungi immunomodulatory proteins and triterpenoids. The immunomodulatory effects and anticarcinogenicity of mushrooms would be studied. These results might be helpful to obtain potential mushroom and T. formosanum species for sustainable utilization in Taiwan.生物多樣性蕈菇類biodiversitymushroom我國蕈菇類免疫調節蛋白生物多樣性資源之產業開發與永續利用
