He is a leading researcher in the fields of diabetes epidemiology, cardiometabolic diseases, and metabolic disorders during pregnancy. He received his M.D. from National Taiwan University and completed his residency training in internal medicine and fellowship training in endocrinology and metabolism at National Taiwan University Hospital. He subsequently obtained both his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine at National Taiwan University. Professor Li has long been actively involved in academic and public health activities related to diabetes. From 2007 to 2019 he served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Diabetes Association of the Republic of China, and since 2019 he has served as a member of its Board of Directors. He currently serves as an editor of several international journals, including the Journal of Diabetes Investigation, and previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Formosan Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Since 2021, he has also been Chief Executive Officer of the Formosan Diabetes Care Foundation, promoting public awareness and improving diabetes care in Taiwan. Professor Li’s research focuses on the epidemiology and translational medicine of diabetes and metabolic diseases. He has published more than 150 SCI-indexed papers and contributed to over 20 book chapters, with work appearing in high-impact journals such as Diabetes Care, Diabetes, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, International Journal of Obesity, and FASEB Journal. A major theme of his work is metabolic disorders during pregnancy, particularly gestational diabetes mellitus, and their impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes. He led the TESGO randomized controlled trial, published in Diabetes Care, which is one of the few investigator-initiated randomized controlled trials led by an Asian research team evaluating screening strategies for gestational diabetes. In addition, he has conducted extensive research on cardiometabolic diseases using large-scale cohort studies and nationwide databases, as well as translational and basic studies of several candidate genes. Importantly, a series of translational studies on vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) conducted by Professor Li has demonstrated its role as both a biomarker of diabetes complications and a potential therapeutic target in cardiometabolic diseases. In recognition of his research contributions, Professor Li received the Professor Fang-Wu Chen Outstanding Research Award from the Diabetes Association of the Republic of China and the Endocrine Society of the Republic of China in 2011, and the Masato Kasuga Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement from the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes in 2023.Epidemiology of DiabetesThe Application of Biomarkers糖尿病甲狀腺其他代謝內分泌疾病HUNG-YUAN LI
