It is important to obtain a balance between resource conservation and utilization in our country when it is getting difficult to import more wood from other countries. Many researchers in Taiwan have promising results on the biomedical applications from nature products of Cryptomeria japonica and Acacia confusa. In order to fulfill “whole tree utilization” of our native grown tree species, the objective of current project is to evaluate the characteristics of biomass reclacitrances in both sepcies and optimize the techniques for bioethanol production, including pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis, from wood of C. japonica and A. confusa after the removal of essential oils. Upon the completion of this project, we not only can promote the turnover of our native wood production but also provide a new route for biomass application.
