2017-08-012024-05-14https://scholars.lib.ntu.edu.tw/handle/123456789/655759摘要:承繼近年來所執行之計畫:「戲劇典律的顛覆與重構:以二十世紀末之愛爾蘭劇場」(96-98學年度)、「後全球化時代的愛爾蘭劇場」(100-103學年度),此次所欲申請之多年期計畫將跨越2016年,亦即「復活節起義」的一百週年,將以「重探」的角度,回顧愛爾蘭劇場與社會發展的過往,並將嘗試以新的角度詮釋與該歷史事件相關的經典與當代劇作,尤其是當全球化成為主流價值,劇作家如何直接或間接影響歷史觀點的形塑,如何因應劇烈改變中的社會,提出具批判性的創意發想。如評論家凱博(Declan Kiberd)所言,沒有一個動亂如1916年的「復活節起義」,不斷在劇場中被想像與詮釋(204),彷彿在21世紀召喚上世紀初的衝突陰影。在百業蕭條的窘況下回想百年前的起義,必然勾起歷史詮釋的許多矛盾,紀念之餘也檢討此刻的經濟挫敗。可以想見的是,有關動盪時代的經典舊作,勢必再次被重新演繹,或是在學界、非學界的場合被討論,然而在不同的時空演繹舊作,作品是否有新詮的可能?做為知識分子抒發異議的愛爾蘭劇場,劇作家又如何以冷靜卻不冷漠的方式來想像出路,而又會提出何種針貶?因此,「重返都柏林」也意味著回歸原點,也是一種想像的延伸,透過檢視已發生(或正在發生)的愛爾蘭經驗,重新評價記憶中的國族過往。預計討論的作品將不限於直接描繪「復活節起義」的劇作,而是其他以「副文本」(subtext)方式呈現,刻劃不同世代、不同社群角落的現當代劇作。所欲處理的五大議題分別為:「社群記憶與失憶」、「歷史創傷症候群」、「劇作家眼中的北愛動亂」、「戲劇中的英雄再現」、「從愛爾蘭劇場看世界」,以下就這些主題及可探討之相關劇本做評析。<br> Abstract: Following the two multi-year projects conducted since 2007, this new five-year project will span the years before and after 2016--the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising. This project aims to both re-explore the development of Irish theatre in relevant social contexts and initiate new interpretations of canonic and contemporary dramas in relation to the historical upheaval. The project will examine how playwrights introduced alternative interpretations of the Rising and subsequent events by unearthing marginalized experiences in creative yet critical manners, especially in the context of globalization facilitating social changes with profound consequences. Echoing Declan Kiberd’s claim in Inventing Ireland that “no previous Irish insurrection had been imagined in such avowedly theatrical terms” (204), this project will examine plays written in the lead up to the aftermath of 1916’s fateful events, not only because the impact of the Rising is still tangible in the 21st century—with a partitioned Ireland and sporadic sectarian conflicts, but because the ethos of the concurrent economic recession resembles that leading to social contradictions and unrest a century ago. It can thus be assumed that canonic plays with nationalistic and unionist visions will be revived around the 100th anniversary of the Rising—as a reminder of unsolved national problems in Northern Ireland and other regions in the world still suffering sectarian violence. Academic and non-academic debates on Irish past, present, and future will likely be reappraised, as revisionist historians had inflamed around its 50th and 75th anniversaries. What can be expected is that the conventional views of modern Irish history will be introspected, challenged, and alternative interpretations considered. Playwrights, always more pioneering in offering critical imaginations, may join the 100th celebration with new works. As a whole, this project will illuminate the imaginative return to Dublin in 1916, exploring diverse experiences in dramas concerning the Irish past and the present, and participating in the rebuilding of Ireland after the halted progress of the once ascendant Celtic Tiger. By studying plays portraying the Easter Rising, regardless of whether or not they are a focal point or subtext, this project will review different communal memories and see how the ups and downs of marginalized and mainstream groups are critically visualized.
