2020-01-012024-05-18https://scholars.lib.ntu.edu.tw/handle/123456789/698749The current project aims to investigate how college students perceive the concept of “data” and their data literacy, especially the similarities and differences among students in different disciplines. Based on Hartel’s iSquares—a visual method with a draw-and-write technique used for examining individuals’ perception on the concept of “information,” this project transformed the iSquares into dSquares for studying the concept of “data.” Drawing upon Mandinach and Gummer (2016), the current project would develop a data literacy scale and survey instrument. The dSquares and the survey will be distributed in classroom settings with permission from the instructors. Students from four major fields of study, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and hard sciences, will be recruited. In order to investigate the current state of students’ perceptions of “data” and their data literacy, the project expands the scope of studying data literacy through incorporating visual method with survey methodology. Potential contributions of the current project include that ready-to-use survey instruments will be developed and the findings can provide future development of data-literacy tutorials for teaching and for learning purposes, and thus help cultivate data literacy of college students.Data literacy, data, college students; undergraduate students; visual methods; visual research不同學科領域大學生感知的「資料」概念及其資料素養
