This study describes an iterative design process for augmenting a home kitchen with Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) technology to raise the health awareness of family cooks when preparing meals. The proposed smart kitchen has sensors for tracking cooking activities and provides real-time health-related feedback to family cooks. This study explores various prototype interface designs for integrating UbiComp technology into a kitchen, evaluates their limitations and identifies the design impli-cations of applying UbiComp technology to everyday living environments such as a kitchen.謝辭 i要 iiibstract vontents viiist of Figures xiist of Tables xiiihapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Problem and Solution 1.2 Opportunity for Ubicomp Technologies 2.3 Design and Implementation 2.4 Design Process and User Studies 3.5 Design Implications 4.6 Contribution 5.7 Thesis Organization 5hapter 2 Kitchen and Cooking 7.1 General Observations 7.1.1 Kitchenware 7.1.2 Appliances 9.1.3 Cooks 9.2 Contextual Inquiry 10hapter 3 Design Considerations 13.1 Transparency 13.2 Flexibility 14.3 Unobtrusiveness 14.4 Glanceability 14.5 Aesthetic 15hapter 4 Hardware Design and Implementation 17.1 Nutrition Tracker 17.2 Hybrid Sensing 18.3 Cooking Activity Inference 20.4 Limitations 21.5 Awareness Display 21hapter 5 Awareness Display 23.1 Prototype I: Nutrition Awareness 23.1.1 Description 24.1.2 User Study 24.1.3 Findings 25.1.4 Discussion 26.2 Prototype II: Calorie Awareness 27.2.1 Description 27.2.2 User Study 28.2.3 Findings 34.2.4 Discussion 35.3 Prototype III: Calorie Awareness with Nutritional Balance Information 36.3.1 Description 36.3.2 User Study 37.3.3 Findings 42.3.4 Discussion 43hapter 6 Reflection 45.1 Evolving Problem Scope and Design Goal 46.2 Limited Time Usage of Technology 47.3 Technology Limitations and Benefit/Cost Ratios 48.4 Planning 50hapter 7 Design Implications 53.1 Leverage Technology Strength 53.2 Modest Human Involvement to Correct System Errors 54.3 Fit User Expectations 54.4 Summary 55hapter 8 Related Work 57.1 Kitchen 57.2 Recognition 59.3 Persuasive Technology 60hapter 9 Conclusion 63ppendix A Publications of Jen-hao Chen 65ibliography 67application/pdf456902 bytesapplication/pdfen-US普及運算智慧環境居家健康照護使用者介面Ubiquitous ComputingSmart EnvironmentsHomeHealthcareUser Interface輔助健康烹飪的智慧型廚房之使用者介面設計Designing User Interface for Health-aware Cooking in a Smart Kitchenthesishttp://ntur.lib.ntu.edu.tw/bitstream/246246/184955/1/ntu-97-R95922023-1.pdf
