The objective of year 1 for subproject 3 is to establish a Lee-Sung miniature pig model of Western diet-induced metabolic syndrome. In our study, 9-month-old miniature pigs were randomly assigned to 2 groups for 5-month experimental periods: control diet (C) and Western diet (W). The body weight and blood parameters were monitored during the experiment periods. At the end of the experiment, pigs were sacrificed and tissues were collected. The results shown that W group had higher body weight than the C group (P < 0.05). W group also had higher values in back fat thickness and body fat ratio (P < 0.05) than C group. Compare with C group, W group had an elevated level of blood glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol (P < 0.05). Furthermore, results of intravenous glucose tolerance test show that W pigs had glucose intolerance in the end of experiment, while C pigs did not. In conclusion, long-term feeding Western diet to Lee-Sung miniature pigs not only increased the body weight and fat accumulation, but also induced the metabolic syndromes including hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and glucose intolerance.肥胖代謝症候群李宋豬葡萄糖不耐obesitymetabolic syndromeLee-Sung minipigglucose intorlance前瞻研究領航計畫-利用迷你豬模型研究代謝症候群與急性心肌梗塞的關連
