Four sub-regions were divided based on general terrain structures and major river flows. The changes in future temperature, precipitation and river runoff were projected statistically from monthly mean atmosphere-ocean coupling global circulation model (AOGCM) outputs. The results show that water resources will increase over the unpopulated eastern region, but will decrease over other densely populated and densely industrialized regions. Significant yearly variation is another worrisome factor burdening the vulnerable water management system. The developed yearly warning index for assessing the climatic impact on water resources is very useful to the water management agency and has a universal application potential. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.en-USAOGCM; Climate change; River runoff; Statistical downscaling; Water resources[SDGs]SDG6[SDGs]SDG13Atmosphere-ocean coupling; Climatic impact; Global circulation model; River flow; River runoff; River runoffs; Statistical downscaling; Sub-regions; Supply and demand; Universal application; Warning index; Water management systems; Landforms; Oceanography; Rivers; Runoff; Water management; Climate change; atmosphere-ocean coupling; climate change; climate effect; early warning system; general circulation model; index method; island; precipitation (climatology); river flow; runoff; statistical application; temperature profile; terrain; water demand; water management; water resource; water supply; TaiwanDeveloping a yearly warning index to assess the climatic impact on the water resources of Taiwan, a complex-terrain islandjournal article10.1016/j.jhydrol.2010.06.024http://ntur.lib.ntu.edu.tw/bitstream/246246/242548/-1/206.pdf
