By using a handheld polishing machine, D-shaped SCFs can be fabricated in a fast and simple way. D-shaped SCFs offer stable platforms for traditional semiconductor processing and we show that Schottky PDs could be easily made on the fibers. Experiment results confirm an improved responsivity of 0.577 mA/W and the modulation bandwidth could reach 170 MHz.
