Different from previous studies using simple stimuli within a single modality, this three-year project aims at using complex stimuli to examine cross-modal perception andappraisal. Six series of studies are proposed, in which faces, objects, natural scenes, environmental sounds, music, and speech will be used as stimuli to examine the effect ofsemantic congruency on visual-audio integration (perception), and the following emotionaljudgment and preference (appraisal). Cross-modal perception is one of the hottest issues atpresent, but rare studies have attempted to link perception to appraisal. Our pioneeringattempt here would certainly make a mark in this field.Visual-Auditory Integration--- From Perception to Appraisal
